Everyone is losing their minds over the attack of Cody Rhodes by Brock Lesnar on the Raw after WrestleMania. They are saying that Cody is being buried for past sins by the WWE after losing the WrestleMania Main Event to Roman Reigns and now the attack. I think that it was the best thing they could have done in the situation with all things considered. It is the best thing they could have done and reminds me of the failed Money in the Bank cash in for Austin Theory and look where he is now.
There were reasons that Cody Rhodes had to lose that match at WrestleMania to Roman Reigns. It helps to make it more special when it happens because he hasn’t had to face any real adversity in the rise to the Main Event position at WrestleMania. You can say that his comeback from the torn pec was his adversity and comeback but was it really? Up to the point of tearing his pectoral muscle, he was on fire with his WrestleMania return verse Seth Rollins and the matches that they were having. The man was on fire both in the ring and on the microphone and then the pectoral muscle happened ahead of the Hell in a Cell match verse Seth Rollins.
While working through what was definitely a Match of the Year candidate inside Hell in a Cell with the torn pec can be said to be adversity, was it? He still went out there, tore the house down, stole the show with Seth Rollins, and won the match. Even while knowing he was going to be leaving to have surgery and repair the pectoral injury. Coming back from that injury he didn’t really have any problems or roadblocks thrown in his way or any challenges. He got the number thirty entry into the 2023 Royal Rumble that he went on to win. Now while having to deal with matches with Solo Sikoa and attacks from members of The Bloodline on the Road to WrestleMania, so did others throughout the entire storyline and on the way to WrestleMania matches. Going on and winning the match wouldn’t have made the moment as big as it could have been. Building more sympathy, momentum, and feelings for him on the way to the Championship is something that needed to be done.
Now enter Brock Lesnar and the blindside attack on the Raw after Mania. What better way to have Cody work through adversity then the Beast Incarnate? An immovable force of nature that we all know could rip Cody apart if he really wanted to. Coming back from an injury and straight to the Main Event isn’t adversity but Brock Lesnar is and could help Cody immensely. I believe that after losing the Main Event to Roman Reigns and then a feud to Brock Lesnar will make the story complete for Cody Rhodes. Regardless of if it happens at SummerSlam, WrestleMania, or any other major PLE for the year. It might not have been the WrestleMania moment that everyone wanted but it is the only place that Cody could logically go heading out of that match and defeat.
I didn’t like him losing but that is just because I don’t see where Roman could go after this. There were many directions they could have pushed Cody after the loss, but we all have to admit that Brock is way better for Cody then most of the options available. This will help to elevate Cody and prove that he is a Main Event caliber Superstar in the WWE so there are no questions when it happens.
